GPH expresses a generalized time allowance in seconds per nautical mile under a defined rating system.
Reading the number
A lower GPH usually represents a faster rated boat. A 30-second-per-mile difference becomes five minutes over ten nautical miles before course-specific corrections.

GPH is a generalized rating rather than a forecast for every course and wind condition. Certificate year, configuration, rating authority, and measurement quality matter.
